According to Kindred Squared’s latest School Readiness Survey, there is a significant gap between how prepared parents feel their children are for school and what Reception teachers are experiencing in the classroom.
The report found that 9 in 10 parents believe their child is ready to start school, while teachers estimate it’s closer to one in two. Many children are still arriving at school needing support with everyday skills such as communicating clearly, eating independently and being confidently toilet trained.
These findings highlight that Reception readiness is about far more than recognising letters and numbers. Developing confidence, independence and practical life skills is just as important in helping children make a happy and successful start at school.
